Teach Your Dog the “Place” Command — and Give Them a Cozy Spot They’ll Love
Training your dog is about clarity, patience, and rewarding good behavior — and the “Place” command is one of the most useful you can teach. It helps your dog understand where you want them to be (and stay) without confusion, whether you’re hosting guests, preparing meals, or simply enjoying quiet time.
You can find and purchase the beds we use and recommend here: Kuranda.com Website
What Is the “Place” Command?
“Place” tells your dog to go to a designated spot — like a mat, bed, or crate — and stay there until released. Unlike “stay,” it’s location-specific, which makes it fantastic for busy homes or any situation where you want your dog out of the way but still comfortable.
How to Teach “Place”
- Pick a Spot: Choose a comfy, consistent place — like their bed or mat.
- Lure and Reward: With a treat in hand, guide your dog onto the bed and say, “Place.”
- Mark the Behavior: As soon as all four paws are on the bed, click or praise and give a treat.
- Add Duration: Gradually ask your dog to stay on the bed longer before rewarding.
- Practice and Proof: Repeat in different rooms and around distractions until your dog knows the drill.
Why the Right Bed Matters
Dogs learn fastest when they feel safe and comfortable — and that’s where a quality bed makes a difference. The Kuranda dog bed isn’t just comfy, it’s built to support your dog’s joints, stay cool and elevated, and stand up to everyday wear. Whether you’re training inside or relaxing outdoors, it gives your dog a designated place they actually want to go to.
